Families of Fire GFA National Conference 2009

Conference Experience

Mug shot"My first visit to a Growing Families Australia Conference was when it was held in my home state of SA, at Victor Harbor. Did I want to go? NO. Did my wife force me to go on pain of death? YES. Did I have a wonderful, enriching and encouraging time? NO ... sorry I mean YES!

Then the next conference rolled around and it was held in Perth. Did I come up with all the excuses under the sun as to why we couldn't go? YES. Did we end up going? YES. Was it great? YES!

Guys, if you are anything like me, you are not instantly attracted to these sorts of things, and you need your wife to encourage you to attend (or force you). Take it from me, give yourself and your family an incredible gift and GO, you will not regret it!"

Mug shotI went along to the Conference at Victor Harbor in 2005. I found it to be a wonderful time of fellowship, learning and encouragement. Setting aside this time allowed me to step away from the business of everyday life, to refocus on this important role of raising children. Being able to connect with so many others walking the same path was a wonderful encouragement. I came away from the Conference better equipped and so glad that I had attended.

We have been to the Gold Coast, Victor Harbour and Perth and have made Holidays around the conferences. We have not felt intimidated or looked down on with our children who are works in progress. We have been greatly encouraged and renewed in our efforts to train our children. Our most challenging child has really enjoyed meeting and interacting with other children who are being brought up in similar ways and even have similar bedtimes! He thought he was the only child that had parents who thought like us! Overall, the benefits to our family as a whole, have outweighed the cost. The conference is for the kids too.
